Favorite Things #16

As you may remember, the girls were black cats for Halloween and one of the main reasons that they picked that as their costumes is because they LOVE cats, especially kittens!

E2 especially can't get enough of them. Every time we are at the pet store, she loves to go look at them and pet them if she is given the chance. And if she sees a shirt with a cat or anything else with a cat on it, she will immediately ask for us to purchase them.

But of course, what the girls want the most is for us to actually get a kitten as a pet. Unfortunately both my husband and I are allergic to cats. And honestly we can't afford to get a pet at this time. So the best that we can do right now is take them to pet stores and let them interact with cats that way.

I never really grew up with pets, only pet I ever had were some fish and my parents were the ones that really wanted them and took care of them, so I don't think it really counts.

Do you or your child have a pet? What do/did you have? Any cat people among our readers?

  1. My husband is allergic to cats too so we have a dog instead. The kids only pay slight attention to him because I think they see us doing the same. We got the dog before the kids were born and now we are just too busy to do more than basic care. Which is sad because the dog needs a lot more than that.

I lived in Taiwan growing up and I had lots of pets! Fish, turtles, dogs (stray dogs that I gave food and they just kept on coming back to so I put collars on them), birds.

Oh, now we also have a big 55-gallon fish tank at home. That's my husband's hobby.

    1. Growing up in Malaysia my grandfather had lots of pets too. Sometimes I want to get some fish but know that the kids keep me busy busy enough I don't need the extra work.

  2. I hate to admit it... but I don't like cats (don't hate me!). I do think kittens are cute though, but I'm not really fan. We're more dog people, although we don't have one yet. My husband is trying to convince me to get a puppy! :)

  3. We got a doggy when I was in middle school and then again shortly before I got married. Both have passed away and it was heart breaking. Though they both brought so much joy, I'm not sure I could go through the heart break again. Also, they are a lot of work. Baby C had a goldfish named "Fish" but it too passed away. She loves dogs!

    1. Aww...that is so sad. Don't thinl the girls would be ready to deal with death anytime soon. Another good reason not to get a pet right now.

  4. The hubs and I got cat allergies too. And I'm not a cat person. You know us, we're dog people! J rarely interacts with the dogs. First, the older dog is skiddish around J, knowing that he's not the gentlest person ;). The younger one couldn't care less who pays attention to him, so sometimes J is allowed to pet him. Mostly, the younger dog likes to lick food off of J's hands and clothes. We hope as J gets older, he can take more responsibility with the dogs and they will both love him.
