Music & art

If you have been following us you should know by now my kids love to paint. Another love (for me) is shopping at Target. You go in for 2 things and come home with 10, haha!  Does that happen to you too? I love the clearance aisles. My recent find was a ukelele stencil kit by Kid Made Modern for 70% off! I've been eyeing that kit since it had H&N's name written all over it. H loves art and N loves music! Plus I always like to have a rainy day activity on hand.

They were so excited when I brought it out. H wanted to play with it right away.
It's fun to watch how their painting styles were so different. H likes to take her time and keep it nice and neat while N painted various areas and enjoyed mixing his colors as he painted.  In some ways their artistry reflects their personalities. Granted H is 2 years older but even at the age of 3 she used the same technique.

Eventually when the kids get a little older I would like them to learn how to play an instrument.
I learned how to play the piano and clarinet. Unfortunately those instruments has collected some dust since then. Who knows maybe my kids will use them one day.
Did you learn how to play an instrument? Which one?
Is there something you always wished you learned how to play?

  1. I played the piano and the clarinet too! I took piano lessons for 2.5 years and I play some easy kids song every now and then with the kids. We have my old piano at home in the living room and I hope my kids will play someday. I was in the band in junior high and loved the clarinet, but wouldn't know what to do with one now. The ukelele turned out so cute. It's great that it's a real instrument and not just some toy.

    1. oh my gosh I've found my music twin! That's how long I took lessons for and was in the band too! I tried playing the clarinet a few years back. Boy am I rusty "squeak, squeak". It's great that you still play some songs for the kids. I'm sure they love it. And yes I love that it actually real instrument, you can even tune the strings. :)

  2. Love those sales at Target too! How is the ukelele? Good sound? Did you buy one or two? Nice that they share, if you only got one. Both kids are super cute with it. I played the violin and haven't touched it in prolly a decade. Hope J will like to play an instrument, but don't think I'll force anything.

    1. The sound is pretty good to me, tho a trained professional may beg to differ. :P The kids are happy and my ear drums are still intact hehe. I only got one, I try not to get 2 of everything. It's good to let them learn how to share :P
I remember seeing you play the violin at church :) good ole memories!

  3. Oh my goodness! How cute are they! What a great deal you got. Way to be patient and keep your eyes out for it. I never learned to play an instrument. Music isn't my strong suite. Ha ha! When I was little, I always wanted to play the piano. Now I wish I knew how to play the guitar. My husband is a great guitarist!

    1. It's never too late to learn, I'm sure your husband will be glad to teach you :) I did try learning a few chords back in HS/college. I know a lot of people who picked up playing the guitar pretty fast.

  4. I love that your kids love to paint! I played the piano when I was younger, but I wasn't very good at it. I wanted to play the flute but always hyperventilated when I tried, haha... so we decided the piano was a better option. I think I just wasn't very musically talented. :)

  5. How totally cute! I played piano & violin when I was a kid. Now, my girls both take piano, and my older one just started the oboe. Wind instruments are so foreign to me--I can't help her at all! :)

    1. Piano is classic : ) That's great, the oboe has such a beautiful sound. I'm sure you'll be attending many concerts in the near future :)
