DIY: Fun firework art

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the words 4th of July?
For me it's fireworks, one of my fondest memories is having my dad drive us and finding a spot by boat house row or by the Philadelphia Art Museum to watch the spectacular display of fireworks. But now we have the luxury of watching fireworks right in our neighborhood. No need to find a parking spot or wait in long lines of traffic to get home.
My kids love it! H is not so crazy about the loud booms but still gets excited to watch.
So in preparation for the 4th we decided to make some fun "kid-friendly fireworks".

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Paper
Toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls
Plastic fork
Scissors
Paint
Glitter

Cut strips along the edge of the paper roll and fold down.
Add glitter to paint to add some sparkle and mix.
Dip roll in paint, dab and twist. Use fork to make spray designs. We added star sprinkles to embellish the fireworks.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
What will you be you doing on the 4th?
What do you like best about the 4th? Sales? A day off? BBQs?

Have a safe and Happy 4th!
Eva

  1. Fun! I may just have to try this with the kiddos tonight. Tomorrow we are leaving the kids at home and my husband and I are going to see World War Z in the morning. Then we will spend the rest of the day together. Nothing specific planned, though.

  2. Happy 4th! The colors turned out really great against the black construction paper. Oh I get it. It's supposed to be nighttime ;). We are taking J to pick blueberries and then picnic and fireworks at night!

  3. Another great craft idea! My husband has to work on the 4th. But our community is having a BBQ at the pool, so I'll take Baby C there for lunch. My favorite memories are of fireworks as well. Most of the fireworks are cancelled this year because of the CO fires. But they are too late anyway. Baby C is already in bed by the time they start.

    1. Thank you!! Aww too bad, I hope your husband gets another day off since he has to work the holiday. BBQ at the pool sounds like fun :) True about it being late for the fireworks... since H&N are a little older now we let them stay past their bedtimes on special occasions ;) Have a great 4th Mandi!

  7. That is so cute and fun! We took our niece to a parade, where they throw candy at the little kids, so she enjoyed it. :)
