Time for the beach!

Last year was Virginia Beach this time we headed over to Ocean City, Maryland for vacation! It's a little early in the season but it was a perfect week. Water was cold but we still got our feet wet.... a little more with N when an unsuspecting wave splashed in. The cold water didn't seem to phase the kids at all.

I told my husband it felt strange being down at the beach and have it so quiet. Some stores weren't even open for business yet. We saw many owners painting and prepping for the beach season as we walked on the boardwalk. It was nice to have the beach to ourselves and not have to walk through the crowds. I just love sitting on the beach, such a calming effect. Looking out and knowing there's so much more there in the sea, and being in awe of God's beautiful creation.
Even H&N took time to enjoy! I'm glad I captured this moment.
From digging in the sand to kite flying. Or eating delicious crepes at our favorite breakfast place to trying out a soft shell crab sandwich, Mmmm. It was a great time with the family! When it was time to go home the kids didn't want to leave, neither did I. One of my dreams to own a beach house... hmm maybe when we win the powerball, Ha!

Are you a beach lover like me? What's your favorite spot to relax?

  1. I agree that when the beach is "all to yourself", it's rather relaxing. Love the photo of the kids just sitting, watching the ocean waves. I remember liking the beach and ocean when I was in elementary school. But after that, it didn't appeal to me. The heat, the icky sand. But after we took J to the beach last summer, and he LOVED it, I have found new appreciation of the beach. Maybe we won't go this year, but hopefully next! It's my dream to own a beach home too. Maybe we should all organize a co-ownership ;).

    1. Thanks Lisa, I plan on framing that shot :) I can understand how the heat and sand can be unappealing. I'm sure you'll be heading to the beach many times in the future. Co-ownership, that sounds like an idea! do you know any realtors? ; ) hehe

  2. I am with Lisa, I don't like the icky sand, especially when it sticks to you, but the kids love it. I now understand the appeal of a beach vacation for young families - you just go there, stay put for a week, and play in the sand. No stress, no running around.

    1. Hi Sugarlens! Haha yes the sand gets everywhere... and even finds it's way home with you. True all kids love playing in it :) My kids could play there all day if I let them. And by the end of they day they are tuckered out and can get a good night's sleep. I love the idea of not having to be "on a schedule", that's what vacations are for right? ; )

  3. Aw! You're making me homesick. Not that I lived in Maryland, but I grew up on the beach in Florida. So many great memories. From hanging out with my girlfriends, to enjoying the peace by myself. Did you get to catch some sunsets? Looks like you had a great time!

    1. Must have been so nice to live by the beach! Sounds like a lot of fond memories :) Unfortunately we didn't catch any sunsets it was pretty chilly. We'll have to try next time. I remember waking up super early to watch the sunrise on the beach, breathtaking! Of course this was before kids hehe... I'll have to share this with the kids when they are a little older. ;D

  4. Great pics Eva! Like Lisa said, we missed going to the beach! I think the fact that we missed it even more now besides not having to work, it's also not having to do any housework and you get to kick back a bit from everything.

Beach vacation definitely have a new meaning to families that have kids. ;)

    1. Hi Alan, good to hear from you! Thanks, it's nice to take a break from our daily routine schedules and kick back :) But we don't have travel or have a vacation to do that... just choose a weekend and devote it to only family, fun and relaxing! The dishes aren't going anywhere ; P

  6. I love the beach when it's empty. I don't really have a favorite. I'll take any clean, warm beach!

  8. Glad you had a good trip! I love the beach, although I prefer spending most of my time by the pool....although this year with a little one, we found the beach easier to navigate since there's so much wide-open space for playing and wondering. It's so good to get away...glad you guys were able to do so too!

    1. Thanks Ally! The pool is a nice spot too. Fortunately the hotel we stayed in had a nice indoor pool. We spent many hours there in the evening :)

  9. Growing up, we would visit my grandparents at their beach house in Bethany Beach, which is one or two towns away from Ocean City - loved that place! We also used to drive from St. Louis to Cape Cod for summer vacations - crazy long road trips, but totally worth it. These days, my husband and I both enjoy road trips, so we take our son and dog to Cape Cod at least once a year. Usually we drive. It's an adventure, but one we absolutely love.

    1. Hi Nilsa! Bethany beach, yes we drove past there. Must have been so awesome to spend time with the grandparents at the beach house. I would love to go to Cape Cod! Looks beautiful there. I think once the kids get older it will be easier to take longer road trips. Have fun this year!
