| BACK TO SCHOOL |
We have orientation next week! Hopefully this will give H a better idea what Kindergarten will be like. Become familiar with her surroundings, get a chance to sit on a school bus, meet her teacher and new friends. Fortunately she has 3 of her good friends in her class which is a big plus. I'm hoping she will transition well.
But the question is... am I ready?
Going 5 days a week... We'll definitely have to stick to our schedule every night so we can be up and ready to leave on time. No more "lazy mornings" where we can just chill in our PJs and do as we please.
Riding the school bus... I'm still debating about this one. I feel she's so young or am I'm just being an overprotective mommy? It's great that she has a bus and it would make the mornings "easier". However, she's telling me that she doesn't want to ride the bus. Should I just drive her til she is more familiar with the new school? What would you do?
Doing homework... Yes even in Kindergarten, at least I don't have to worry about not knowing the answers. Seems more intense than when I was a kid, all we did was have snacks and play.

Anna is going back to preschool in two weeks. This year, she is going 5 days a week, 3 hours a day. I hope it won't be too much for her.
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law, who has two older kids, told me that one of the mistakes she made was driving her kids to school. She said that it added unnecessary hardship/stress on herself and kids should get used to riding the bus when they are young.
Now I am an overprotective Mom myself and I can't imagine sending Anna on the school bus all on her own when her time comes either. You will have to let us know what you decide and how it goes!
I'm sure Anna will love being back in school! I will keep you posted about the bus. I plan on letting ride the bus when she gets older for sure. We shall see :)
DeleteMy little one went on the bus in 1st grade. It worked out fine for her, but I ended up driving her or walking with her later in the year because we're so close to school anyway.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking 1st grade would be "better age" since she will be older and familiar with her school. It's nice that you could walk to school. We're close but a bit too far to walk, plus there's a stretch where there's no sidewalk.
DeleteI don't think you are being overprotective. I'm not sure I would put Baby C on the school bus. I remember all sorts of transportation. Sometimes I rode the bus, sometimes I rode my bike and sometimes my mom would pick me up. My favorite by far was having my mom pick me up. I hope you and your "baby" have a great school year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mandi, it's good to know I'm not alone on this issue. I started riding the bus in 2nd Grade but I have to agree with you it was nice having my dad pick us up after school when he had the day off. :)

Awwww growing up!!! As for riding the bus, I don't have any practical advice since J is only 3 but I'd imagine that your instincts should tell you whether or not H is ready for the bus ride. Hope she has a great year! Is it weird that I'm actually looking forward to helping my kids with homework?? I am such a geek/academic!
